When the LSU Law Center became an independent campus in the 1970s, the Student Bar Association began to publish their own yearbook to capture the memories of their time as law students. Each issue of the L'Avocat is a reflection of a year in student life and campus progress. Before 1976, the Law Center was included in The Gumbo, the yearbook for the LSU main campus. The L'Avocat was published annually through the late 1990s. Budget cuts and competing demands on students' time led to a decline in publication regularity in the early 2000s, with the final issue being published in 2005.
