Description
The U.S. war crimes court at Nurnberg heard the final arguments for Farben director Max Ilgner by his counsel Dr. Herbert Nath of Fesslerhof, Chiemsee. Ilgner was one of 23 Farben officials indicted by the U.S. government in May 1947 as a war criminal. Nath argued that because of Farben's international ties neither his client, who headed the Berlin office directing intelligence, espionage, and propaganda activities, nor his co-workers were ever in the Nazi's inner circle. "For this reason," he told the Tribunal, "it is absurd to believe the prosecution charges that Farben participated in the initiation of aggressive wars." Photograph 11 June 1948
